Client SETUR Location Istanbul – TR Construction Area 35.000 m2 Project Type Marina, Retail & Hotel Project Date 2016 Project Status Concept Design

Located on the Anatoian side in Istanbul, Kalamış marina is a 16 year old marina one of the most prominent leisure places in ıstanbul where public goes for jogging food and outdoor aktivities. This represents a unique architectural challenge and establishes variety of questions to be adressed not only in terms of marina design but also in terms of future development of this region. The new Project is to enhance the public life’s integration into the marina thus becoming a critical and essential destination and a new hub for the city of İstanbul.

The design calls for integration of the street life in to the marina zone, take advange of open and green spaces as well as connection with the water edge. The general concept is planned around the idea of one continuous wooden deck which becomes a roof deck for the majority of the retail programme. While doing this all the existng trees are kept and the bulding shape is moved around the existing trees. This created a natural path for the commercial parts and also defined the architectural borders fort he planning. Along the seaside more f&b units placed overlooking the marina, making it possible for the public to have access to the water. Along with the new program the capacity of the marina is increased to 1700 slots. All of the marina facilities such as sanitary blocks, stowage areas, technical areas and workshops are designed in away that they do not impact the public activity zones.
